Common English Speaking Mistakes and How to Fix Them | English Tips for Beginners

🌸 Introduction: Mistakes Are Part of Learning

When I started speaking English, I made many common English speaking mistakes — and that’s completely normal! Mistakes are proof that you are learning.

In this post, I’ll share the most common English speaking mistakes beginners make and how I corrected them with simple daily practice tips.

Tip: Combine this with my Daily English Practice Routine to see faster improvement.

🗣️ 1. Mixing Up “He/She” or “His/Her”

Many beginners confuse he and she or his and her when speaking quickly.

Example Mistake:

❌ “She is my brother.”

✅ “He is my brother.”

How to Fix It:

Listen carefully to pronouns in YouTube videos or podcasts.

Repeat short sentences out loud: “He likes tea,” “She loves reading.”

Daily practice makes it easier to remember.

💬 2. Forgetting “–s” in Third Person

A very common mistake is forgetting the “–s” ending for he, she, or it.

Example Mistake:

❌ “She go to school.”

✅ “She goes to school.”

How to Fix It:

Write 3–5 sentences daily using he, she, or it.

Practice speaking them aloud as a small grammar workout.

🕓 3. Confusing Past and Present

Beginners often use the present tense for past events.

Example Mistake:

❌ “Yesterday I go to class.”

✅ “Yesterday I went to class.”

How to Fix It:

Read short stories and underline past tense verbs.

Use those verbs to talk about your own day: “I watched a movie yesterday.”

📘 4. Overusing “Very” or “So”

Many learners rely on “very” or “so” too often.

Example Mistake:

❌ “The food was very good.”

✅ “The food was delicious.”

How to Fix It:

Learn stronger, more descriptive words: amazing, fantastic, delighted, delicious.

Practice replacing “very” and “so” in sentences daily.

🎧 5. Speaking Too Fast or Without Pauses

Speaking quickly can cause pronunciation errors and make you forget words.

How to Fix It:

Read short paragraphs slowly.

Record yourself speaking for one minute daily.

Listen to your voice to spot mistakes and improve clarity.

🌿 Conclusion: Step by Step Improvement

Mistakes are part of every English learner’s journey. Even now, I still make small errors!

The key is to keep practicing and correcting yourself every day. Don’t aim for perfection — aim to be a little better every day.

✅ Combine these tips with a Daily English Practice Routine and you’ll notice your fluency, confidence, and pronunciation improving step by step. 💬✨
